Larsen’s Northern Rockies IMT presented the Strategic Implementation Plan to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, the Mendocino National Forest and Area Command at 1430 this afternoon. Note that fire has been burning since June 21.

Cold trailing with minimum impact suppression techniques are proposed for portions of the Vinegar and Yellow Fire with lighter fuels and areas that have experienced minimal movement the past couple of days. Reconniassance for potential contingency lines on portions of the Yellow Fire. A helitack crew will be inserted on the southeastern perimeter of the Vinegar Fire to hit isolated spots.

On 7/11 the Yolla Bolly fires were subsumed into the Lime Complex [here]. Now they are their own unique fire complex again. Note that during the two-week hiatus the fires have increased in size ten-fold.
Larsen’s IMT began working on a Strategic Implementation Plan for the complex this afternoon. Note that the fires have been burning for more than month.
Several crews and engines arrived at the incident yesterday, flight conditions for air support have improved, and operational resources made progress building fireline today.
Remaining uncontained fires: Grouse Fire 1,901 acres with 0% containment, Yellow Fire 25,556 acres with 15% containment, Vinegar Fire 38,611 acres and 25% contained. IR confirms that the fires within the wilderness continue to grow daily. With the predicted hot and dryer weather, the potential for fire to move out of the wilderness remains.

22 fires in the Yolla Bolly Complex. The Vinegar fire contains former Sulfur and Frying Pan fires. Wilderness #2 and Harvey fires have combined into one fire. Priorites are: 1)Slides, 349 acres, 80% contained, 2)Harvey, 1,167 acres, 30% contained, 3) Yellow, 921 acres, 40% contained.
Type 1 IMT (Wilcock) assumed command at 1800 on 7/8/08.
Planned Actions: Tie existing control lines from the Iron Fire (Lime Complex) into the Harvey Fire. Resources on the Yellow Fire will continue direct line construction as possible. Progress will continue on securing the east flank of the Wilderness fires to prevent movement toward communities.

Line construction completed for planned burnout on the southeast flank of the Slide and Harvey Fires of the Yolla Bolly complex. Yellow and Grouse fires are being allowed to burn into natural barriers. Sulphur and Vinegar fires are burning together. The north flank of the Vinegar fire is moving onto the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
