Specific Location: Downing Mountain, Bitterroot NF ~Lat 46°14′00″ ~Lon 114°18′00″

Cause: Lightning

Tentative plans are to demob the Type 3 team and turn the fire back to the district on Monday September 6.

Calm winds, previous wet weather, fireline construction and mop up have moderated fire behavior even through yesterday and todays warmer temperatures and lower relative humidities. The drying effect of yesterday and today’s warmer temperatures have slightly increased single tree torching and the number of smokes found within the fire perimeter. However, no significant fire spread has occurred.

Wet weather has moderated fire activity. Evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Crews and engines have made great progress securing both flanks of the fire reducing the fire threat to structures. A successful public open house was held 8/28 evening.
