Climate Follies: Chapter 54,873

The Climate Hoax folks are are firing all their guns at once and exploding into space. The Ether waves are jam-packed with egregiousness due to the high hat circus in Gropenhogging. Here are a few flips, flops, and flounderings from the Alarmist self-immolation spectacle.

First, NOAA was forced to admit the planet is cooling. They don’t know why, and they just hate it, but there’s no way to hide the facts any more:

North American 2008 Cooling Attributed to Natural Causes

Cool sea surface temperatures overrode warming

NOAA news release, December 4, 2009 [here]

Cooler North American temperatures in 2008 resulted from a strong natural effect, and the overall warming trend that has been observed since 1970 is likely to resume, according to university and NOAA scientists.

“Our work shows that there can be cold periods, but that does not mean the end of global warming. The recent coolness was caused by transitory natural factors that temporarily masked the human-caused signal,” said Judith Perlwitz, lead author of the study and a researcher with the Cooperative Institute for Research Environmental Sciences, and NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory, both in Boulder, Colo. The paper will be published Dec. 8 in Geophysical Research Letters. [We have it, see here] …

The analysis included historical data and climate model simulations that were conducted in the U.S. and internationally. The science team discerned both natural and human-caused influences for 2008.

“North American temperatures would have been considerably colder in 2008 had there been no human-induced warming influence present,” Perlwitz said.

From the paper:

There is increasing public and decision maker demand to explain evolving climate conditions, and assess especially the role of human-induced emissions of greenhouse gases. The 2008 North American surface temperatures diverged strongly from the warming trend of recent decades, with the lowest continental average temperatures since at least 1996.

In our diagnosis of 2008, the absence of North American warming was shown not to be evidence for an absence of anthropogenic forcing, but only that the impact of the latter was balanced by strong natural cooling. Considering the nature of both the 2008 NA temperature anomalies and the natural ocean variability that reflected a transitory interannual condition, we can expect that the 2008 coolness is unlikely to be part of a prolonged cooling trend in NA temperature in future years.

Hahahahahahaha!!!! So it’s “natural cooling” that has swamped Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (CAGW)? Just natural variability, something never considered before in their junk models. But not to worry; it’ll be getting warmer soon, according the uncorrected junk models. They have never been right in their predictions yet, but that doesn’t stop them from trying.

Not today, however, as the temps around Oregon are setting new LOW records. It’s 12F here in the Willamette Valley this morning. Brisk.

Did you think Crap-and-Tirade was DOA? No worries, sheeple. The Gummit is going to carve their pound of flesh anyway:

EPA issues CO2 ‘endangerment finding’

By Edward Felker, Washington Times, Dec 7, 2009 [here]

The Environmental Protection Agency formally declared Monday that carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels poses a threat to human health and welfare, a designation that set the federal government on the path toward regulating of emissions from power plants, factories, automobiles and other major sources.

The declaration has been expected for months, after the Obama administration said earlier this year that it would act on a 2007 Supreme Court decision that found carbon dioxide and five other so-called greenhouse gases are pollutants covered by the Clean Air Act.

Although it could have delayed the announcement until March, the administration chose the first day of the United Nations global warming conference in Copenhagen as a way to signal that President Obama wants to convince global leaders that the U.S. will cut its greenhouse gas emissions either through legislation or regulation.

The willingness by the administration to rein in emissions has been considered critical to the adoption of a political deal at the 192-nation conference, which ends on Dec. 18. Mr. Obama plans to attend at the end of the event with more than 100 world leaders.

Mr. Obama has said he would prefer that Congress regulate emissions through a cap-and-trade law that would set a declining limit on emissions. The administration contends that such a law would provide needed flexibility to companies that want to exceed their annual emissions quota, by allowing them to buy excess pollution permits from others that cut emissions faster than required. …

But then, it appears the EPA’s finding is based on fraud and a half. Pay no attention to the politicians behind the curtain.

And what would a circus be without jugglers?

Researcher: NASA hiding climate data

By Stephen Dinan, Washington Times, Dec 3, 2009 [here]

The fight over global warming science is about to cross the Atlantic with a U.S. researcher poised to sue NASA, demanding release of the same kind of climate data that has landed a leading British center in hot water over charges it skewed its data.

Chris Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, said NASA has refused for two years to provide information under the Freedom of Information Act that would show how the agency has shaped its climate data and would explain why the agency has repeatedly had to correct its data going as far back as the 1930s.

“I assume that what is there is highly damaging,” Mr. Horner said. “These guys are quite clearly bound and determined not to reveal their internal discussions about this.”

The numbers matter. Under pressure in 2007, NASA recalculated its data and found that 1934, not 1998, was the hottest year in its records for the contiguous 48 states. NASA later changed that data again, and now 1998 and 2006 are tied for first, with 1934 slightly cooler. …

Flips, flops, creative accounting, and data juggling. NASA has no special axe to grind, other than milking the taxpayers for umpteen $billions every year. Looks like another NASA probe is augering in. Crash and burn.

Meanwhile back on Planet Earth, the fraudsters are wringing their hands over global COOLING. It’s a travesty, just a travesty, that their junk models have no relationship with reality:

Where did all the warming go?

By Michael Fumento, Washington Times, Dec 7, 2009 [here]

It’s the science scandal of the year. A thousand e-mails and 2,000 other documents were swiped from the server of Britain’s Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University and posted on the Web. Many were truly embarrassing to the writers, while others have been quoted out of context and falsely used as “proof” global warming is “a hoax.”

But in one e-mail a top “warmist” researcher does admit it’s a “travesty” that “we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment.” Further, “any consideration of geoengineering [is] quite hopeless as we will never be able to tell if it is successful or not!”

“Geoengineering” - as in the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill that passed the House and that the conservative Heritage Foundation estimates will lop $9.4 trillion off the economy? Geoengineering such as that to which President Obama hopes to commit us to at this week’s U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen? Yes, that kind of “geoengineering.”

And as it happens, the writer of that October 2009 e-mail - Kevin Trenberth, a lead author of the warmist bible, the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - report told Congress two years ago evidence for man-made warming is “unequivocal.” He claimed “the planet is running a ‘fever’ and the prognosis is that it is apt to get much worse.”

But Mr. Trenberth’s “lack of warming at the moment” has been going on at least a decade. “There has been no [surface-measured] warming since 1997 and no statistically significant warming since 1995,” observes Massachusetts Institute of Technology meteorologist Richard Lindzen. “According to satellite data, global warming stopped about 10 years ago and there’s no way to know whether it’s happening now,” says former NASA Senior Scientist for Climate Studies Roy Spencer. …

So the junk models didn’t predict the cooling that’s been going on for the last decade, and the downturn must be due to “natural” factors they failed to account for. Not to worry — as soon as they find the data they threw away, they’ll fix all that. The Earth is going to boil, we’re past the tipping point, and just because it’s getting COLDER in defiance of the hokum models, that’s no reason not to shut down civilization.

Global temperatures are NOT rising, they are falling. Sea levels are NOT rising any more rapidly than they have for the last 8,000 years — in fact new reports indicate that the 2mm per year historical rise has slowed to 1 mm per year in the last decade. Polar ice caps are NOT melting, in fact the opposite is happening, especially on Antarctica. Ocean acidity levels are NOT rising — the oceans are in fact alkaline (pH 8.3) and no significant change up or down in recent years has been verified.

The entire CAGW Hoax is collapsing like a deflated balloon. The Chicken Littles are running around like decapitated fowls. The End Is Near, not for Planet Earth but for the Thermageddon Cult.

Someday we will all sit back and laugh at the clowns. Actually, today is a good day to do that. Might be a way to keep warm during these frozen times.

President Obama says all of this Climategate stuff is just “silly,” and he should know. He’s a President.

Instead, he is arranging a secret meeting with noted climatologist and proctologist, Algore,to further convince American taxpayers to give them each billions of dollars to promote the idea that CO2 is a deadly chemical.

Next on the hit list: water vapor. It is on record as having caused tens of thousands of people to die through drowning, and has even greater “greenhouse effects” than CO2. True facts!

Is this just “silly,” or what? Or maybe just plain crazy? We live in interesting times.

Temperature is dynamic. There will be periods of cooling. In fact, there’s cooling every day (during night). There’s cooling every year (during winter). And there’s cooling every decade (when ocean circulation patterns cause the seas to absorb more heat than they release).

But the overall temperature trend is still up, up, up. See: http://www.igbp.kva.se/images/CCI-composite_bigger.jpg

The IGBP curves are phony-baloney. That’s the nugget of Climategate — fraud with the temperature data. For another case of data fraud (besides GRU), see [here].

TreeC123:

The current issue of the UK Daily Mail is keeping on top of this issue both logically and factually, including McIntyre’s recent expose of the “trick” [here]

However, your perspective is being well-represented at Copenhagen and YouTube [here]

While countervailing opinions are being presented in a simplistic and jingoistic manner, as you describe [here]

More Climate Follies:

Hundreds Held During Climate Change Protest

Andy Jack, Sky News Online, December 12, 2009 [here, with video]

Police say 968 people have been arrested during a climate change protest in the Danish capital Copenhagen.

Hundreds of youths dressed in black threw bricks and smashed windows as at least 30,000 people demonstrated in the centre of the city as world leaders debate global warming.

The rioters, whose faces were covered, went on the rampage in the heart of the city, prompting swift arrests as some 50 policemen in riot gear intervened.

Demonstrators were forced to the ground and then bundled into vans.

Police said those arrested were members of militant groups from northern Europe known as Black Blocs, who were accused of provoking street violence during a NATO summit in the French city of Strasbourg last April. …
