Wilkes Withdraws from USFS Oversight Position

Mississippi NRCS Administrator Homer Lee Wilkes, selected in May by the Obama Administration to serve as Undersecretary for Natural Resources and Environment at the USDA [here], has withdrawn from the nomination for “personal reasons.” Wilkes would have overseen the US Forest Service.

From the AP today:

Obama pick to oversee forests withdraws

The Associated Press, June 6, 2009 [here]

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s pick to oversee the nation’s forests has withdrawn his nomination.

Homer Lee Wilkes was nominated on May 5 as undersecretary of agriculture, a position that would have put him in charge of the U.S. Forest Service and the National Resource Conservation Service. The White House never sent his nomination to the Senate.

White House spokesman Shin Inouye said Saturday that Wilkes has withdrawn his name for personal reasons.

Wilkes was a 28-year veteran of the Natural Resources and Conservation Service and state conservationist in Mississippi.

Inouye says the president has not picked a replacement.

By the way, Shin Inouye is the “director of specialty media” since Feb. 26, and prior to that the constituency communications coordinator for the Obama for America campaign. He is a member of the Japanese American Citizens League and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association [here].

And Mike, your point is …..

We are five months into Obama’s Presidency and he doesn’t even have a new Chief yet! I guess that shows just how much he cares about the ongoing disaster occurring in our western forests. Is he waiting until people start dying before he will react? Does he not see the millions of acres of dead trees? Is he waiting until he sees the flames and smoke on TV? Will he designate pre-burned wilderness areas? How many millions of tons of GHG’s will he encourage to rise into the atmosphere?

Someone needs to ask the President these difficult questions.

Sam,

Let me explain my point.

1. The Undersecretary for Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) is an important job, almost equivalent to a Cabinet Secretary position. The Chief of the US Forest Service reports to the UNRE. When Congress wishes to instruct or inquire the USFS, they go through the UNRE.

2. The previous UNRE was Mark Rey. He was a lightning rod for radical enviro hate campaigns. If you recall, the Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics sued the USFS to ban the use of fire retardant. When their suit was dismissed, they demanded that Mark Rey be jailed, because he was “responsible” since he was the UNRE [here, here, here].

3. Make no mistake about it. The radical crazy anti-forest lobby still wishes to ban fire retardant. They want to burn America’s forests to the ground as soon as possible, and fire suppression of any kind stands in their way. Those worms exposed their insanity at the 3rd International Fire Ecology and Management Congress held in 2006 in San Diego [here]. They issued a Declaration endorsing catastrophic fires to convert forests to brush in the name of “solving” global warming.

4. Now that radical crazy B. H. Obama has been elected, the most egregious of his kind think they run the Nation. They want megafire holocaust now. They want a complete ban on fire retardant and fire suppression of any stripe. So when a career civil servant (NRCS Administrator Homer Lee Wilkes) was selected to be UNRE, the radical forest arsonist crowd went to Obama and told him in no uncertain terms that Wilkes was not satisfactory.

5. As a consequence, the Wilkes nomination was scotched. The tiny press blurb issued by Sam Inoye blames “personal reasons” but the truth is the egregious radical forest haters vetoed him.

6. All of which exposes (again) the kind of appointments made by Obama. He has picked the worst of the worst with no regard for the lives, livelihoods, landscapes, or liberties of the Americans affected by his outrageous appointments. Except this time Obama faltered and selected a sane person (Wilkes) who was not a tool and so had to have his head lopped off.

7. Sam Inoye is one of those radical leftists — a former ACLU spokesperson, a campaign worker for Obama with no actual qualifications other than political ties — who was appointed to a strange and frankly unheard of job, director of specialty media, as a payoff for political henching. Pure Chicago-style machine politics.

8. So poor Sam, who wanted only to collect his graft from the public trough in obscurity, has been thrust forward as the new obsequious Prufrockian spokesman, forced to voice the standard lies and coverups, this time to hide the dirty laundry and backroom dealing at the USFS.

9. So now, for the time being, Sam is the poster child for radical leftwing anti-forest holocaust.

10. We who care deeply about our forests and do not wish them destroyed by extremist political henchmen on a power jag, patiently await the next installment of outrageously bad government from the lunatics who hold sway today.

That’s my point. Your buddy Sam stepped in front of the fan when the shit hit it, and he got sprayed. Too bad. Maybe next time he will have the sense to keep his head down, although it is clear that he is a walking object lesson in bad appointments, the kind that keep coming at us from the most egregiously anti-American and destructive presidential administration in the history of this country.

And Sam, lest you think my rhetoric overly flourished, please note that former Clinton officials openly aver, without remorse, that I should be strangled in my sleep for daring to oppose their global warming hoax/fraud, that they have somehow transmogrified into a forest policy of No Touch, Let It Burn, Watch It Rot, No Regrets, all of which I sincerely regret, even if they don’t.

So I want to know why Wilkes passed on the appointment. I speculate the reason Inouye was the announcer is because he is the token gay spokesperson and weekend warrior in the ObamaNation PR machine. I have to guess that he was chosen to announce the ousting of Wilkes because of his past experience being a wheel in Congressman Nadler’s office and the sub committee on the Constitution that Nadler chairs. (I wonder if Nadler has to wear a wide load sign and have a back up beeper and a rotating yellow light on his beanie? He is the poster boy for lifestyle and choice health issues). Ousting a person of color has to be done by another person of color. Proper form. Sensitive issue.

So what is the reason? Latina housekeeper without papers and no SSI withholding? Just another ObamaNation tax cheat? Or, did the keepers of Gaia call in their chits and demand his removal and the appointment of their personal sock puppet from the algore wing of ecocrazies? Something is afoot and amiss. Time will tell. The Blogosphere will root out the real reason. I have a feeling it won’t be pretty. But, with the Village People appointments we see daily, there would have to be some speed bumps along the way.

I suspect the sock puppet theory is the correct one. Bad omen.

I read somewhere that Wilkes had ties to the biomass industry. I’d bet that Obama, with his agricultural slant, thought that Wilkes would be perfect for the job. Only after the “eco-community” discovered the link and decided, in true “commie” form, that biomass harvest isn’t in “the People’s” interest. My guess is that they will select someone with a fisheries/hydrology background to fit with “Party Agenda”.

Also, those kinds of people are “pining” for a return of “common sense” to the Forest Service. In Eco-Speak, that means more departure from actual science and more reliance on the public’s hearsay and lack of education.

I suspect Wilkes was selected for skin color, and then rejected for lack of conformance to the radical Left agenda.

Look for someone else to be selected on the basis of skin color, ethnicity, and/or gender who is a raving Leftwing lunatic to boot.

At the least a Leftwing lunatic. After all, the last administration, the Bush2, had a Rightwinger lunatic in Mark Rey. Actually, he too, was a sock puppet, but for Weyerhaeuser and Big Timber, the Mega Pulps. Rey should have gotten an award from the US Grain Growers for setting up more straw men than anyone before or since.
