Mount McLean Fire

Location: 4 km NW of Lillooet, BC
Specific Location: NE of Seton Lake ~Lat 50° 42´ 14″, ~Lon 122° 03´ 44″

Date of Origin: 07/22/2009 (discovery date)
Cause: Lightning

Percent contained: 70%

Previous evacuations have been rescinded. All evacuation alerts and orders have been rescinded.

The Evacuation Order has been downgraded to an Evacuation Alert. Some fire activity in a couple of spots, will action with helicopters.

Evacuation order issued to the Bridge River Indian Band. Other evacuation orders are in place for the west side of the Fraser River and it has been extended to Kayoosh First Nations and Bridge River. An evacuation order applies for the Northeast shore of Seton Lake. The evacuation alert has been extended to the entire Lillooet District. All previous evacuation alerts still apply.

The fire now within 1 km of Lillooet. An evacuation order applies for the Northeast shore of Seton Lake. The evacuation alert has been extended to the entire Lillooet District.

Building line with crews and heavy machinery on the E flank above Lillooet and well as on the W flank. Helicopters are bucketing water and laying retardant lines along the W and SE flanks. Burn-off activities will occur when and where possible.

The fire has grown in the direction of Shalalth/Seton Portage.

Heavy lightning in the area has produced additional fires, most of which have been actioned or assessed by the Lillooet Fire Zone. Helicopters are being shared from this fire to provide support to these new fires as needed.

Evacuation order was issued by the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District for properties on the NE shore of Seton Lake. 57 fire fighters, 40 support personnel, six structure protection staff, nine pieces of heavy equipment, and 14 helicopters. A sky crane helicopter, with a bucking capacity of approximately 1400 gallons, will join the fleet today.
