Could we get a link to a fire perimeter map for the Big Springs Fire? InciWeb appears to be down currently. 3000+ acres now.

Brett, the perimeter is changing as we virtually speak.

And unfortunately, InciWeb has been down for most of June, for one reason or another, allegedly because their server is too small, which sounds fishy to me. Adding server capacity takes about an hour, or less if you have the latest drag-and-drop virtual server technology.

GEOMAC Wildfire Viewer has fairly good maps (see righthand sidebar under Fire Links). GEOMAC is slow, but if you select your fire and zoom in repeatedly, eventually a map will appear, sometimes.

Google Earth has pretty good maps. Google Earth is free for the download, and useful in many ways, as well as fun. Their fire overlays are here:

activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/kml/conus.kmz

The Lat/Lon coordinates are listed for most fires, and those can help with finding the general vicinity with Google Earth. Sometimes the coordinates issued by the govt reports are not quite right, but they are close (in some cases they are for the Ranger Station, not the fire).

But in all cases it takes a few hours (days) for the mappers to upload the maps. It’s not a real time function (yet).

Thanks, Mike. GeoMac is what I was after. No perimeter display online as of yet, no doubt for the reason you’ve stated. Noting a number of additional SW fires (outside of CA) that I’ve up to now been in the dark on.

The best source I know of for info on active SW fires is [here].

And I just added a GACC Link site to the Fire Links. The Geographic Area Coordination Centers provide detailed site reports for fires in various regions around the country, usually once a day in a morning report.
