Rainbow Bridge Fire

Location: 2 mi N of Stehekin, Chelan Co. CA
Specific Location: near Rainbow Falls, North Cascades National Park, Lat 48° 20´ 39″ Lon 120° 41´ 34″

Today was the last operational period for WAIMT3’s management of the incident and the fire will be turned back to local jurisdiction tomorrow. Crews continued mopping up in Divisions A and B as well as monitor and securing control lines. Evacuation Level on the New and Old Schools remains at a Level 3. Crews are being brought out from Stehekin Base Camp by boat and equipment will be barged out over the next two days.

Significant rain fell over the fire yesterday and last night, but with the warmer weather today fuels have already dried significantly. The fire is still burning but with reduced intensity.

Acreage change due to better mapping.

Direct radio contact from the fire to the ICP was established late yesterday and has been working in good order throughout the day. Traffic is flowing in good order for the commercial vendors and visitors (hikers and tourists). Crews have begun mopping up in Division B and conitnue to monitor and secure control lines. Type 1 helicopters took advantage of the opportunity today to drop water on critical areas of the fire in Division C to help with suppression efforts. Evacuation Level on the New and Old School remains at a Level 2.

Reduced evacuation level on the new and historical schools from level 3 to level 2. Personal have been deployed to help with the traffic management at Stehekin.

Fine fuels have dried out from the recent rain and the fire behavior is picking up. The fire has the potential to increase in fire behavior and return to previous days burning conditions. The fire continues to burn to the SE and SW, downslope toward the valley floor.

Due to accurate mapping the acreage of the fire is now estimated at 4115 acres.
