Location: Larkin Valley, N of Watsonville near Hwy 1, Santa Cruz Co., CA

Date of Origin: 06/20/08 2:00 PM
Cause: Human, suspected arson

Situation as of 06/22/08 6:30 PM
Total Personnel: 146
Size: 630 acres
Percent Contained: 100%

Releasing any excess resources starting tomorrow morning pending the weather conditions. Plan to have just local resources on the fire for the next operational period until full control of fire. Plan to have fire under 100% control June 24, at 2000.

10 residences and 10 outbuildings have been destroyed. Suspected arson; fire apparently grew out of 5 spot fires next to Hwy 1.

Evacuations have been lifted in all non-fire areas. Re-entry has begun into all non-fire affected evacuation areas. Several road closures are still in effect for areas that have active fire. Hwy 1 has been reopened.

Injuries: 2 minor

Full containment is expected on June 22.

The forward progression of the fire has been stopped, but there is heavy mop up in eucalyptus groves. The weather is expected to remain abnormally hot and dry today. Firefighters will continue to improve line and put out hot spots. Full containment expected today.
