A conservationist, a logger and a Forest Service manager work together

Tim Lillebo, Scott Melcher and Maret Pajutee trail decades of hostility as they tramp through the forests that slide east off the Cascades into central Oregon.

Yet, here they are — an environmentalist, a logger and a Forest Service manager — side by side amid the towering ponderosa pines along Indian Ford Creek.

The three have joined forces in an unusually friendly effort to repair a 1,200-acre patch of fire-prone forest just east of Black Butte Ranch.

“This is a great opportunity after absolute war,” said Lillebo, an advocate with the conservation group Oregon Wild… [more]

The Deschutes NF made a sweetheart, no-bid, one source contract with the most extreme eco-litigious group in the state, to do a forestry project!

Two years into the project nothing has happened, and there is a very good chance nothing ever will. Except that Oregon Wild has not stopped suing the DNF to put the kibosh on other thinning projects.

OW just successfully sued to stop the rehabilitation of the Black Crater (2006) Burn. Out of 9,600 acres, the DNF wanted to treat 190, or less than 2 percent or the Burn.

Was that okay with OW? Hell no!!!

    Can anyone say “extortion”?

Note that there is absolutely zero professional forestry expertise being applied to the Glaze Project. The “principals” are all untrained, unpracticed, and fundamentally ignorant about forestry. There is no anthropological expertise, either. There is no fire expertise. The “principals” have no idea in the world what they looking at, or how it got there, or what the future holds for that forest.

But it is all so touchy-feely. All the “rivals” are working together.

    What a crock of bull!!!!!!!!

The Deschutes NF has catastrophically burned over 150,000 acres of priceless heritage forest in the last 8 years. All the communities within 15 miles of the DNF have been threatened repeatedly with annihilation. The DNF has done next to no rehab of the burns. They have done Angora-style thinnings near Camp Sherman that are sure to blow up into canopy fires.

And now they are crawling into bed with forest-haters as a publicity stunt!!!!!!

What a pathetic mess! What a cruel tragedy!
