Try OR Dept. Fish and Wildlife.

Late June fires can wreak havoc with the grazing. Early May fires can enhance grass growth but late June fires, after most of the growth has occurred, combust this year’s crop. Depending on how big this fire gets, the BHS herd could be impacted from not at all to severely.

When winter range is burned in late summer of fall, humanitarian hunts are sometimes held to harvest animals that would otherwise starve to death over winter. Such hunts were held in NV in 2006, for instance.

Looks like a 30,000 acre fire, more or less. If it had been 300,000 acres, things might have been different. Lots of fire season left to go, though.

Keep us updated on the hunt, please. Thank you.
